The Victim Impact Panel (VIP) Course is designed to help individuals convicted of drunk and drugged driving understand the profound and lasting consequences of substance-impaired driving.

Through powerful firsthand accounts, this course fosters empathy, raises awareness, and encourages behavioral change to prevent future offenses.

During the panel, victims, survivors, and those affected by substance-impaired driving share their personal stories. They provide a raw and honest perspective on how a crash—resulting in injury or the loss of a loved one—has shaped their lives and the lives of their families.

This is not about blame or judgment. Instead, it is a deeply impactful experience that allows offenders to hear directly from those who have suffered, leaving a lasting impression that can lead to meaningful change.

The DWI Education Programs of Texas Victim Impact Panel (VIP) course fulfills court and probation requirements while educating participants on the serious consequences of drunk and impaired driving.

The DWI Victim Impact Panel (VIP) Curriculum Includes:

• Defining Drunk and Impaired Driving: Understanding what constitutes substance-impaired driving and its legal implications.
• Examining Current Trends: Exploring statistics and patterns related to drunk and impaired driving.
• Providing Real-Life Examples: Reviewing case studies and real-world incidents of impaired driving.
• Explaining the Impact on Victims: Hearing firsthand accounts of how crashes affect victims, families, and communities.
• Reflecting on Accountability: Encouraging participants to process their thoughts and emotions about personal responsibility and the consequences of impaired driving.

Effective June 20, 2025, the Victim Impact Panel program will transition to an online course. No appointment is required. Please plan to set aside at least 2 hours to complete the course. 

A certificate of completion will be issued within 1–3 business days after you finish the course.
